Sam Lowes declared unfit after Superpole due to worsening symptoms of chest contusion
The #14 had hoped to see out his second WorldSBK campaign in style but instead will have to watch on after being ruled out of racing
Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) will take no further part in the Pirelli Spanish Round for the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship. The #14 was declared fit on Thursday after missing out on the Estoril Round’s races due to a chest contusion, with the Brit hoping an extra week of recovery would aid him at the Circuito de Jerez - Angel Nieto, Andalucia. However, due to worsening symptoms of the injury, he has been declared unfit and won’t race at Jerez.
Lowes had put his Panigale V4R machine third on the grid in the morning Tissot Superpole session, behind only Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) and Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team). He’ll sadly miss out on this weekend’s three races to conclude the season, meaning he’ll miss out on the chance to fight brother Alex Lowes (bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team) for P6 in the standings.
